Karuna Center Awarded USAID Grant for New Program in Sri Lanka
The Karuna Center for Peacebuilding is pleased to announce that they have been awarded USAID grant for a new program in Sri Lanka titled, Community Reconciliation through Religious Leaders. This program will build bridges between religious leaders from Sri Lanka's four major faith traditions: Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Christian in the northeast district of Trincomalee. This region suffered greatly from the recent months of fighting between the Sinhalese dominated government and ethnic Tamils, leaving thousands of civilians displaced. Karuna Center will team up with their Sri Lankan partner NGO, the Centre for Peacebuilding and Reconciliation. Together they will facilitate a people-to-people approach to encourage dialogue within and across each religious community and to support religious leaders in promoting reconciliation across Sri Lankan society.
