PAKISTAN
In August 2009, at the invitation of the U.S. State Department, the Karuna Center provided a four-day training of trainers course in Pakistan on peacebuilding and conflict transformation for the members of Paiman, an influential Pakistani NGO. As a result of the course, the organization established a Centre for Conflict Transformation & Peace Building in Islamabad as a resource center and training institute for the region.
Training manuals and materials were tailored to the specific regional context, and the Centre has already conducted training with over 125 male and female youth from different universities in Peshwar and with some 60 members of civil society. Graduates of the training have been named Peace Practitioners, with each assigned to educate 60 university fellows and 60 members of their communities. The majority of Peace Practitioners belong to conflict-ridden tribal areas of FATA and NWFP, and collectively they have reached out to thousands of fellow students and community members. |
