Combatants for Peace is an organization co-created by Israelis and Palestinians. The Israelis, who formerly served in the Israeli Defense Force, came to understand that violence was not the way to peace. They are partnered with Palestinians, largely from the West Bank, who also previously engaged in violence as part of their freedom struggle, but without a formal army. All of CFPs members have renounced violence, realizing that it is a poor tool for resolving regional problems of land, security, and equity.
Karuna Center currently has a partnership with CFP in which we are providing training in organizational development, strategic program planning, team building, intergroup relations, and other issues of concern to their membership. We are glad to know that they are actively engaged in anti-war protests, imploring the parties to seek a nonviolent way forward.
In response to the immediate crisis, CFP joined with other bi-national organizations to mount a rally in Rabin Square in Tel Aviv against the use of armed conflict by any parties. Their slogan at the demonstration is “There is Another Way.”
“A time will soon arrive when a spirit of generosity will spring forth from the hearts of both people and peace and justice will flow like a river from Jerusalem to the Jordan, to Tel Aviv, to the Mediterranean, to Gaza, and to the Golan Heights.”
